The Oxford University Computer Society (commonly known as CompSoc) exists
to promote the use of IT, Computers and the Internet, and to organise
meetings for members to further our computing interests. We also hold a
variety of social events and run a small network for use by members.
Speaker meetingsWe normally invite several guest speakers each term to present a talk, usually about an hour long. Speakers in the past have included Steve Clarke (Freeserve), Philip Allen (DecisionSoft), Simon Prytherch (CodeMasters) and Roz Allibone and Mat Ellis (WDR). Our speakers are usually specialists in the field, and have included former Oxford students now working in IT.Social eventsApart from the general rule that committee meetings are held in the pub, CompSoc organises a number of social events each year. These provide a chance to escape the fixed-stare pose of many members and take part in Christmas drinks, barbecue, punting and more.Practical coursesThere is a large amount of computing knowledge spread around the CompSoc membership, and so we regularly hold meetings given by current members. These have recently included courses on Java, PERL, LaTeX, GTK, Databases etc.Further InformationThis term's EventsHow to join CompSoc The CompSoc Network | |||||
