Conduct of PGP Keysigning Party
  1. Email your PGP/GPG key to pgp@ox.compsoc.net before Sunday 20th February.
  2. On Sunday evening you will receive an email containing the PGP and GPG keyrings for the event (one for 2.x RSA style keys, one for 5.x DH/DSS style keys).
  3. Attend the event. You will be given a list with everyone's key ID, key type, fingerprint and key size from the compiled keyrings - there is no need to print your own copy. Bring a paper copy of your own key ID, key type, fingerprint and key size. You should also bring suitable photo ID.
  4. Each keyowner reads their key ID, key type, fingerprint, key size and user ID from their own printout - not the distributed listing. If the information matches the printout then place a checkmark by the key.
  5. Once everyone has read their key ID information, all the attendees form a line.
  6. The first person walks down the line letting every person check their ID.
  7. The second person follows immediately behind the first person and so on.
  8. If you are satisfied that the person is who they say they are, and that the key on the printout is theirs, you place another checkmark next to their key on your printout.
  9. Once the first person cycles back around to the front of the line they have checked all the other IDs and their ID has been checked by all others.
  10. After everybody has identified himself or herself the formal part of the meeting is over. You are free to leave or to stay and discuss matters of PGP and privacy (or anything else) with fellow PGP users. If everyone is punctual the formal part of the evening should take less than less than an hour.
  11. Everyone then goes home and, after checking the key information on the keyring you were emailed matches the printout that you checked against, signs the appropriate keys.
  12. Then send the signed keys back to pgp@ox.compsoc.net
  13. The signed keys will then be sent to the keyservers and also the completed signed keyring back to all participants.
