Accessing the CompSoc Network

oX.CompSoc
There are several ways you can access your account and mail on CompSoc: we provide telnet and ssh for logging in, pop3 for retreiving mail, and ftp for file transfer.
However, telnet, ftp and pop3 transmit your password in plaintext, which means anyone could listen in on your connection and get your password. For this reason, you should not use these protocols if at all possible. Instead, you can use ssh to log in, and scp (which uses ssh) for file transfer.
For mail transfer securely, it is best to use an ssh forward.

More information about secure connections.
Ssh clients for Linux and Windows

Using the standard ports for telnet or ssh (23 and 22 respectively) will take you to the main user box, sticky. You can access the other machines via ssh on the following ports:

  • 222 - Daffy
  • 223 - Fishy
  • 224 - Sticky
  • 225 - Nutty
  • 226 - Spiffy (also on default port 22)
  • 227 - Sparky
