Many members of CompSoc choose to work in the IT industry or its
derivatives. In this field, experience in a number of key skills is vital
in beating the competition for a job. Whilst CompSoc aims to provide
events covering a variety of material that will prove to be useful in
future employment, there is no substitute for working in the front line.
CompSoc is regularly approached by organisations who are looking for the
chance to 'skim' off the creme-de-la-creme by recruiting students who
have a genuine interest in computing. As a result they provide openings
for vacation work, and many look at this as probation for permanent
employment offers.
This page contains information about these groups, from both the
University and external businesses.

The Careers Service is located at 56, Banbury Road and provide a variety
of information covering vacation work and permanent employment. Although
their talks on jobs in IT seem to be aimed at people who have no
experience with computers, it is worth a visit if you collect an
'aptitude test' which is an all-round exam that many top employers now
require of all applicants. (Who said that changing GCSE and A-level
standards didn't render them useless as a gauge of academic ability).
