Evil Cults

The Cult of the Blazing Wave

This group of cultists who serve Death are of all races and genders, united in their hatred for the civilized people of the Old World. Operating somewhere in Mauristatia, they spread throughout the Old World, from Far Analand to the Northlands, from the Anvils of the Gods to High Xamen.

But what is it they search for? Some scholars and sages who have done research on this group say with dread that they seek vengeance for the Purifying Light caused by the Minimites in 1999 OT during the War of the Wizards that slew the Forces of Chaos. They seek some unholy artifact of Elim that will allow them to create a storm of darkness that will focus the power of Chaos and Evil in one powerful storm that will destroy the entire Old World, as we know it. If this is true, then the Old World as a whole is in more danger than I could ever imagine. The Rising Moon, the churches of many good deities, and even some shadier groups act against them when they discover the cultists operating in their lands, because no one by the Cult wants this disaster to occur.

Evil Covens and Cabals

The Cabal of the Werewolf

This wicked group of Brician nationalists was formed around 177 AC, sometime during the War of the Four Kingdoms. They were a group that sought to commit terrorist acts to Brice's advantage in the war. Having struck in Lendleland, Femphrey and Gallantaria, the Cabal seemed to be well on its way to making Brice the sole united nation on the continent. However, the severe backlash against Brician citizens and refugees in the aftermath of the War served to turn public opinion of even the Bricians against the Cabal. The new Lord Regent declared them enemies of the people, and sent many of them to the spiked rack, the most horrific method of execution in the Old World.

The Cabal of the Werewolf went underground in 181 AC, still under the leadership of the horrific Karam Gruul, who planned to destroy Gallantaria with some bizarre sorcery laser until the Moonrunner captured him. A tribunal from all four nations who took part in the war sentenced Gruul for war crimes, and executed him by the spiked rack after public humiliation and torture. This incensed the surviving members of the Cabal, who then declared that they would be the true rulers of Brice, and would punish the people of all four nations for the actions against their beloved leader. They went underground numerous times over the next century, until 284 AC, when they assassinated the Lord Regent of Brice and attempted to put a puppet ruler on the throne. Tinardo Del Riska, then a prominent general in Brice, slew most of the Cabal's leaders and managed to get himself elected by the ruling oligarchy at the same time. He has endured six assassination attempts by the Cabal, all of which have failed. Now, they are subtly encouraging the Third Ruddlestone War to take place, when they plan to seize power after Brice is weakened. Whether Regent Tinardo knows of this or not is unknown, but he is certainly on his guard.

Sects of Goodness and Neutrality

The Rising Moon

After the darkness and evil of the previous two groups, it is with relief that I come to the kindness and love of the Rising Moon. Worshippers of Lunara the moon goddess, this group of good people of all races unite to work very subtly against the powers of evil and darkness permeating the Old World today. They work against the Three, the Archmage, the cults of the various evil gods, the Cult of the Blazing Wave, the Cabal of the Werewolf, and the myriad other threats in the Old World to try and bring some life back to a continent surrounded by evil. Their numbers and ranks are kept closely secret, so it is anyone's guess that they are or how they pursue their dreams of a peaceful and civilized Old World. It is known that they willingly manipulate and hire adventurers to exterminate problems, and have many times before saved the Old World from dire threats. It is thought that they passed the Crown of Kings to King Chalanna of Femphrey, selected the Analander to recover that crown when it was stolen by the Archmage, selected the Champion of Mother Earth against the Voivod, and many other deeds too sensitive to mention.
