Throughout the Old World there are many different ales, wines and spirits made and drunk and here Jared Milne has helpfully provided us with Sir Jarvis's Latest work, covering this precise area.
Certainly, while adventurers in the Old World reflect on taxes, laws, and history, many of them, as well as many non-adventuring folk, enjoy nothing more than a good, stiff drink after a hard day's work or monster slaying. In the masterwork "Titan", by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone of Salamonis, we can discern the origins of such famous drinks as Holdgut's Special Blue, Guursh, Skullbuster, and Buruna Catsblood. However, there are many more drinks famous to the Old World in particular, such as the notorious Quillian water. Herein, with help from a friend in the Femphreyan Association of Wine-pressers and Brewers, to classify all the many drinks most famous in the Old World today.
Sir Jarvis of St. Wymerios University, with assistance from Dron Benedous, Assistant Guildmaster of the Femphreyan Assocation of Wine-Pressers and Brewers, Crystal City, 294 AC
Arkle Brandy: Said to have been created by King Arkle IV of Analand, it has become a drink famed throughout Analand, and exported to other continents. While it seems to be a mild drink, especially for brandy, it has a powerful taste and provides a very regal sensation when drunk, or so says my co-author, Dron Benedous, which obviously suits a king.
Big Cedar Log: An ale brewed by dwarfs in the mountains of Mauristatia, the Zanzunu Peaks, and the Northlands. This powerful brew is distilled through a peculiar type of underground barley grown only in the mountains and caves of the Old World. A critical ingredient is the sap from cedar logs and trees, which allows the beer to become more potent as it ferments.
Femphrale: The Femphreyan counterpart to Lendale, this brew was produced in response to Lendale when Gallantarian brewers attempted to flood the Femphreyan market, taking advantage of low trading duties. Femphrale is obviously more popular in Femphrey, and it does not provide a kick like an iron-shot mule, as Benedous is so fond of saying. One can drink more of this brew before passing out and/or vomiting, thankfully. It costs two chalannas a mug.
Guursh: Still drunk by humanoids in Kakhabad, the Cloudcap Mountains, the Witchtooth Line, and other such fell regions, as well as the fewer humanoids in the wilderness regions of more civilized states, and even among the chaotics in Brice. This disgusting drink is deadly poison to any but orcs and their ilk, who seem somehow immune to the extreme toxicity it produces. Some enterprising brewers export this to Brice for sale to the humanoids there, and more rarely use as a bribe to chaotics to keep them from invading civilized lands. This does not always work, but at least drunken chaotics are more easily defeated. In Brice, it costs three gold regents a flagon. Note: While orc brewers insist that this concoction is "ale", scientific and chemical tests done by human alchemists have proven inconclusive.
The Horse's March: A stout produced in Pollua and Rorutuna, in Lendleland. Said to have been first concocted by horse-nomads after the creation of the Khanate of Lendleland, this strong stout is beloved by trolls and other chaotics, as well as the horse-nomads and nobility of Lendleland. For peasants, drinking this concoction is an offense punishable by death. It costs eight ponies a glass.
Lendale: The national drink of Gallantaria, brewed since the days of Orjan the Builder, founder of what would become Gallantaria. Available mostly in Gallantaria, obviously, this beer has a very strong, potent kick, and will make any non-Gallantarian drunk in three mugs. It costs five moons a half-flagon.
Northern Rivers Finest: A thick, powerful, foamy mead brewed by Northlanders. Said to be nearly twice as potent as Lendale, this is quite possibly one of the most potent drinks in the Old World, if not all of Titan, and is in large part responsible for the Northlanders' fighting character. One wag joked that if and when the Northlanders secede from Gallantaria to form their own kingdom, they will instantly become the wealthiest nation in the Old World from selling and exporting this potent brew. It costs two suns and four moons a tankard in Gallantaria.
Quillian Water: Sold only in the diamond trading port of Quill, in Brice. Served in small thimbles, and costing ten gold regents a shot, this drink is so potent that three measures will kill a man! Needless to say, only masochists drink this horrible substance, which looks and tastes like water.
Red Eye Rum: A rum said to have first been brewed by red-eyes living in Khare in Kakhabad, and since exported out of that wicked, decadent hive of scum and villainy ever since. It has a very light, sweet taste to it, but there is a metallic aftertaste that most humans do not care for. Most think that this brew was originally made from the waters of Lake Lumli, research has turned up that the original recipe is crushed Red-Eye eyes. This gruesome brew can be had for three gold pieces a shot.
Scarlet Wine: Pressed mostly in Lendleland, named for a noted Kha-Khan who created the drink and named it after his office, the Scarlet Throne. It has a very rich, honeyed taste to it, with a grainy aftertaste, being pressed from grapes grown on vineyards in Lendle territory in Mauristatia. It costs eight ponies a glass.
The Soldier's Brew: The drink of choice for Brician soldiers. This wine is pressed at grand vineyards worked by serfs on noble estates in and around the Forbidden Fortress, and Brician soldiers, since the War of the Four Kingdoms, have used this wine in pre-battle ceremonies, and is said to have a strong, sweet taste to it that "only a Brician battle-man can take", or so the soldiers boast. Only Brician soldiers are allowed to drink it, costing three regents a drink.
Telak's Sword Scotch: A drink famous among the priests of Ruddlestone, this wine is said to be pressed by monks of Telak in the Demonkeep Outpost and Harabnab, which combines for a rich, buttery flavor and a pleasant tingling sensation which echoes throughout the drinker's body. It costs five kings a bottle.
