for the elucidation of the Shrine of Hamaskis :

THROBEN , being a history appertaining to, as collected and edited by his Grace Lortag VI, Third Noble of Khare; having commissioned sundry expeditions to the far east of the Old World, whereby to rediscover this lost land. Part One : The History

Long long ago, before the one continent was sundered, but after the Great Battle of which many stories are told, six Gods moved themselves unto a mighty plateau in the highest mountains. They walked among the primitive peoples of this land as Mages of ultimate power. With the release of Time into the world, these Gods feared the loss of magic altogether as its wisdom was slowly lost. So in this lofty land, called Throben, once Throben-aman, or Throne of Magic, they each took a people as their own and taught them the most profound secrets of magic. GLANTANKA, Mistress of the Sun, chose those beings which would become Minimites and invested them with the strongest and most direct power. LUNARA, Lord of the Moon, granted many strange gifts to his beloved Sightmasters. ALISHANKA, Throff as we call her in Khare, or Mother Earth; her own Dwarves were immune to magic, so she created the She-Satyrs and taught them the way of the earth. PANGARA, King of Air, took some of his birds and made them Bird-Men; he gave them complete control of the skies. TEREBA, the Fire-Master, with his vicious bent cursed us with the Red-Eyes, to whom he entrusted the mystery of fire. HYDANA ran his essence through the rivers and huge waterfalls in the area and made himself known among the Lake-Goblins, now a vanished race.

To unite these disparate beings, these six Gods in their ultimate wisdom created a being called the Theomancer. Of unknown but no doubt Godly descent, this archmage joined together the six peoples of Throben together into a realm that was totally isolated from and centuries ahead of the rise of the First Continent.

All seems to have been well until the last few decades prior to the destruction of Atlantis. Through the careless machinations of Demons, or rather as a side-effect of their doings elsewhere at this time, a new archmage came unto Throben. This was the Chronomancer, invested by CHRONADA, the strange young god created by the destruction of Time. With complete control of this dimension, the Chronomancer outfought the Theomancer and wrested control of the land. Throben's deposed archmage, it is said, then went out unto the greater land and worked many miracles; at any rate, passing from our chronicle.

The Chronomancer, with the willing aid of the beings of Throben, moved the land out of this world into a realm totally isolated from the passing of Time. Essentially, Throben left our known world of Titan to all intents and purposes, and existed in another dimension altogether. Powerful Gates were set up, drawing off the inherent power of the world of Titan and fuelling the magic of the Chronomancer. In this stasis, the beings of Throben developed magic far beyond the ken of anyone alive today.

But the Chronomancer always kept the secret to time-travel, and did not teach it to the Six Peoples. Here was the downfall of Throben. Mighty Lord Death could not have ignored the Chronomancer escaping the cycle that Death himself had a part in creating. This insidious God, King of All Endings, sent a third archmage to usurp the land of Throben. This was the Necromancer, master of life and death. Against the powers of Death, the Chronomancer's gifts failed. A terrible civil war began.

It was now about a millennium and a half after the Sundering of the One Continent, and Throben returned to this world. It returned to what had been its original location - and was now a broken plateau in the central Zanunu Mountains. During the war, five of the Six Peoples fought back against the unstoppable powers of Death. All except the Minimites were ultimately cast out, into the surrounding wastes. Death came to claim them often, and they lost almost all of their magical gifts. Indeed, all that remains of the Lake-Goblins is a few savage offshoots. But the Minimites happily aided the Necromancer, in return for one thing : the right to still practice time-magic.

Suddenly, what we call today the Rise of Kakhabad occurred. Throben was now almost empty; a few Minimites and the Necromancer. As is known to all scholars, the Minimites broke the power of Chaos but thereby lost all their gifts - and thus the powers of Chronada were lost to all except the Necromancer. This mighty archmage remained in his Zanunu palace, and for two centuries ruled his magiocracy of one. When Death finally claimed him, he passed on his knowledge and gifts of he who was known today as the Archmage of Mampang. Thus, in the forbidding and largely yet unknown peaks of the Zanunus, the legacy of Throben continues still.
